SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Join your peers for the next SEI Houston Chapter Luncheon Technical Session:
"Offshore Wind Farm – Future Challenges"
High demand for EV and net zero carbon policy will accelerate the development of offshore wind farms near major cities in the US. Only one commercial offshore wind farm of 0.03 GW exists in the East coast while onshore wind farm capacity reached 105 GW in 2020. Harnessing potential 2000 GW electricity by constructing offshore wind farms will bring unprecedented challenges to geotechnical and structure engineers in near future.
The lessons learned from the offshore wind farm project in the East coast as field geotechnical engineer will be shared with three major topics:
- Offshore Site-Investigation Survey
- Wind Farm Site Characterization Process
- Engineering Challenges – East/West Coast & Gulf of Mexico

Speaker Bio: With 10 years of experience in offshore geotechnical engineering focusing on deep water pipelines and infrastructures, MinJae Jung, has built his expertise in site-characterizations and pipe-soil interaction. His project experience includes geohazards survey, real-time pipeline route selection and design optimization of 32 offshore and near-shore pipeline projects. He worked as client representative for site investigation of major oil/gas pipeline projects located in ultra-deep water of Gulf of Mexico and Mediterranean Sea.
MinJae Jung began his career as a geotechnical engineer in 2011 joining Cronus Technology Inc. after graduating with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin where his academic research includes field seismic survey and soil dynamics on simulated offshore clay. In 2020, he worked as an independent field engineer for the first commercial scale offshore wind farm project in the East coast and continue to explore renewable energy sectors including solar and energy storage projects.
The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) is dedicated to serving and promoting the worldwide structural engineering profession and related industries by providing a forum for research, education, design, testing, manufacturing, construction, and operations in the structural engineering profession.
