Session 1: "3D Visualization Tools for Design Reviews"
Infrastructure projects can fall into the danger of “paralysis by analysis” or “chasing rabbits” of multiple competing options, all with their own unique risks. To help overcome this paralysis, project teams need easily understood visual models to show project design options, highlight critical obstacles, and obtain decision inputs by the project team.
One method of accomplishing this includes utilizing a federated model which includes data from multiple software’s or databases all brought together into a single interface. Project teams can utilize existing asset databases including GIS, AutoCAD, Revit, Access, and others to create a federated 3D visualization model. This allows for the big picture elements from GIS such as existing terrain, bridges, roadways, property lines to be evaluated alongside details from the project detailed design from Autocad or Revit to be displayed into an interactive and easily understood visual model.
By utilizing this process project teams can streamline reviews and decisions by allowing for all the voices within of the project team to unite around the same visual tools and efficiently collaborate on both the overall project alignment and critical issues.
