Hosted by the Houston Zoo in partnership with ASCE Houston
Behind the Scenes at the Houston Zoo: Jack's Cafe
- Capacity and Size 4,286 square feet of special event space capable of holding a 150 - 300 person event that overlooks the Galapagos Exhibit
- Sustainability: 18,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system, composting, bird friendly window treatment and more
- Certification: LEED GOLD

Behind the Scenes look of The Houston Zoo’s Jack’s Café. Part of its centennial campaign , features innovative mass timber construction. This choice reflects the zoo’s commitment to sustainability and its mission to reduce environmental impact.
The structure is made primarily of sustainably harvested mass timber, a material with a lower overall carbon footprint than concrete or steel.
Central to this effort is the use of Cross-laminated timber (CLT) and Glulam, which not only reduces the construction industry's environmental footprint but also aligns with the zoo's broader mission of conservation and sustainability.
Parking & Additional Event Information:
Meet at 1:45 pm at the zoo main entrance to allow time for check-in.
