Pavement Repair Techniques for Concrete and Asphalt City Streets and Parking Lots

ABOUT THE SESSION
Mr. Eastwood will start discussing concrete panel removal for concrete paving which will include, subgrade modification, using lime, cement or fly ash. Various concrete pavement repairs are discussed. This includes, use of cement stabilized sand, aggregates, black base, etc. New pavement sections are recommended for subdivision streets and major thoroughfares. The discussion will include concrete placement, curing, slump test, concrete cylinders, concrete coring, etc. Asphalt pavement repair will consist of panel removal, modifying subgrade soils, placement of aggregates, prime coat, compaction, density testing. The presentation will outline placement of black base, aggregate or cement stabilized sand under the asphaltic concrete surface course. The presentation will address asphaltic concrete pavement edge failure due to trees and edge drying at open ditches. It will provide solutions such as, removal and replacement of expansive soils, chemical injections and placement of geofabrics. The presentation will address the effects of trees on roadways and techniques to mitigate those effects, consisting of root barriers and biobarriers.
