Two-Dimensional Modular Steel
Presented by James L. Ryan, P.E.
ABOUT THE SESSION
Traditional steel erection has relied on truck-transported, on-site “stick-built” construction — except in the case of massive, ship-transported 3D modules used in oil, gas, and chemical plants. But for the past 25 years, James L. Ryan, P.E., has led a different path — championing the use of Two-Dimensional Modular Steel to revolutionize steel design and construction.
In this session, Jim will share insights from his 45-year career, including how modular steel panel designs have:
- Reduced elevated-height floor component installation by a factor of ten
- Enabled the installation of over 10,000 modular steel panels to date
- Optimized stackability for transport without cost premiums
- Improved safety and speed through above-floor installation using high-strength, one-sided bolt assemblies
Attendees will gain an inside look at the evolution of this innovative approach, supported by real-world metrics and practical applications.
